Beyond Careers new initiative are workshops for Financial Education and Keeping Good Tax Records for small businesses and self-employed. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/index.html

Beyond Careers is a partner with the Internal Revenue Service Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE), Stakeholder Liaison, Field (SL,F) Operating Unit. This partnership will focus on financial education and providing tax reporting information for small businesses and self-employed taxpayers, provide outreach, and foster small business development. The training workshops and services will help with the economic development for our communities.

The small businesses and self-employed taxpayers need to learn more about how federal and state tax systems and about their taxes:

  • Business Expenses
  • Filing Requirements
  • Income Calculations
  • Tax Responsibilities
  • Un-banked
  • Workshops on reporting self-employment income through Schedule “C”
  • Self-employed income could qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) eligibility.

A strength of this program is that the training is provided by CPA, CMI and IRS professionals.

In addition, an educational initiative is being implemented in 2011. This program will be in partnership with similar organizations, to provide an opportunity for participants’ to learn how to apply for student financial aid, seek Post-secondary education admission, be accepted for enrollment in continuing education programs, set attainable goals, and strategies for remaining enrolled in postsecondary education until graduation.
